A Master of Classical Persian Music as Founder and Instructor In addition to being a world renowned performer and master of radif (classical Persian music repertoire), Dr. Omoumi is also a noted scholar and teacher of Persian music. He served on the National Conservatory and Tehran University in Iran, the Center for Oriental Music Studies of Sorbonne University in Paris and UCLA in Los Angeles. Dr. Omoumi also served as a visiting artist at the ethnomusicology department of the University of Washington in Seattle. His research on the construction of ney (Persian reed flute), tombak, and daf (percussion instruments) has opened new possibilities and introduced significant innovations. A Rich Program Haft Dastgah’s program comprises a variety of activities that allow each individual to better understand and appreciate classical Persian music. They are all conducted by Dr. Hossein Omoumi:
Seminars: a PowerPoint presentation as well as Q&A’s give the audience a generalidea of what classical Persian music is.
Workshops: they are more educational and interactive than the Seminars. They are for those who seek a thorough understanding of the classical Persian music’s components and structure.
Classes: Hossein Omoumi gives both singing and ney classes to groups as well as individuals.
CD’s and DVD’s: Haft Dastgah will be creating and publishing materials such as hand books, educational compact discs (CD), and digital video disks (DVD).
A Program Opened to Everyone There are no prerequisites necessary for these activities. Anyone who has an interest for classical Persian music is welcome to join our program!
